Breath of Life HBOT

Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a new and very promising treatment in the world of autism.  Mild HBOT uses a chamber (about the size of a tanning bed) pressurized to 1.3 atmospheres and an oxygen concentrator to concentrate room air to contain more oxygen than is normally available. When the chamber is pressurized, oxygen is able to get to parts of the body including areas of the brain that may not normally be getting good perfusion.

Several prominent physicians in the field of autism (Jeff Bradstreet, Jerry Kartzinel, Julie Buckley, and others) are now using HBOT with their own children and with patients and are very excited with what they are seeing.  HBOT is used in Europe and elsewhere for cerebral palsy, stroke, traumatic brain injury and many other uses, After a two-week course of HBOT for our son Rob at the International Child Development Resource Center (ICDRC) in Melbourne, Florida, we saw enough interesting changes in him that we purchased a chamber to use in our home.  Major changes to date include being able to completely discontinue the seizure medication Rob has taken for several years and the best academic year he has had since he started school.  We have also seen lots of minor improvements in Rob’s abilities and cognition and were so pleased we purchased a second Vitaeris 320 chamber for use with our clients and other interested families.  However, Rusty and I quickly realized that we just don’t have the time and energy to run this second business.

In August 2006 we delivered this second chamber to and entered into partnership with Colleen Leonard at Breath of Life Treatment Center in Cary, NC.  Colleen, the mother of a child with special needs, is committed to providing excellent, low-cost HBOT to other children and adults with special needs.  Please check out her website at www.breathoflifetreatment.com or call Colleen at 919-469-2000 for more information.  For more information about HBOT, go to www.hyperbarics.org , www.hbot4u.com, www.oceanhbo.com, or www.ihausa.org.
