ABOUT AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), previously thought to be a severe, lifelong psychological disorder caused by an unloving or indifferent mother, is now being actively researched as a medical/biochemical disorder.

Forward-thinking physicians and researchers, inspired by Bernard Rimland's book, Infantile Autism, have found unique patterns of gastrointestinal, immunological and neurological abnormalities in children and adults diagnosed with ASD. Whether these abnormalities originate through genetics, viruses, heavy metals, environmental toxicities, children's immunizations or some other insult to the body, more is known every day about ASD. This new information is leading to interventions such as the gluten-free, casein-free (GFCF) diet, supplementation with specific vitamins and minerals, the use of anti-virals and anti-fungals and chelation of heavy metals such as mercury, lead and arsenic.

A Small Miracle, Inc., subscribes to numerous ASD and developmental disabilities newsletters and has an extensive lending library of books, videotapes, and audiotapes available to client families who desire additional information.

Janet Presson, R.N., M.Ed., president of A Small Miracle, Inc., is also available by phone, e-mail or appointment to assist client families in understanding and implementing these new interventions.
