Special Olympics North Carolina

A Small Miracle, Inc. has been a strong supporter of Special Olympics for several years, providing both financial assistance and volunteers for local and state level events. Many of the people we serve participate in Special Olympics and our employees enjoy assisting and cheering the athletes as they compete.

A Small Miracle, Inc. is a Gold-level Statewide partner, donating more than $30,000 each year.  Our management staff and habilitation technicians participate in local and state fund-raisers, serve as coaches and volunteers, and assist our service recipient athletes in training and competing.  Janet Presson, ASM President, is currently serving her second term on the SONC Board of Directors, "I can’t think of a better organization for us to support with our time and money. Special Olympics helps our children live healthier lives by promoting exercise and they have so much fun at the same time. I have seen what participation in Special Olympics has done for my son and wholeheartedly support it. Rob enjoys competing and it has made him a better athlete and rider."

Special Olympics North Carolina has one of the largest athlete populations of any Special Olympics program in the world, with more than 38,000 athletes competing annually in local, regional and state competitions. In 2010, SONC hosted a new fundraiser called Over the Edge.  Participation involves raising $1000 for the privilege of rappelling down the 30-story Wachovia Building in Raleigh.  ASM had 10 people, including Janet and Rusty Presson, go Over the Edge, helping SONC raise over $100,000 total for the one-day event!  ASM participated again in 2011 and the event raised $150,000 for the SONC!  For more information on how to get involved for the 2012 event, go to www.sonc.net and click on the Over the Edge logo.
