Purpose: To promote overall health and wellness among all individuals associated with ASM as well as in the community.
The Wellness Program will: Provide structured activities and events that foster physical activity, in addition to providing educational resources and encouragement to build and maintain a happy and healthy lifestyle.
Activities include but are not limited to: Walking, Jumping Rope, Hula Hoops, Parachute Activities, Kickball, Dodge Ball, Aerobics, Dance and Overall Gross Motor Skills Development (i.e. throwing. rolling, kicking, jumping, hopping, etc.)
To accompany events, nutritional information sheets will be given out to educate individuals on healthy food choices.
Health and Wellness “Nuggets” will provide periodic encouragement to participate in regular exercise and make healthy food choices.
For added incentive, we are developing a rewards program to help keep us motivated! We will begin implementing this in the very near future!
Sports for Special Kids
We want to extend a huge thank you to NC Sports for Special Kids!! NC Sports for Special Kids is a local non-profit organization with the goal of building a recreational center in the triangle for special needs children. The Board of Directors is a group of people who want to give something to the community and who have themselves benefited by participating in athletics throughout their lives.
A Small Miracle, Inc. Raleigh was chosen as one of this year’s recipients of $600. The money will go towards helping more kids get involved in our Community Outing Program and our Wellness Program, both encourage kids with special needs to get active and be healthy. Their donation will help pay for children to get involved in activities including bowling outings, swimming outings, horseback riding, etc. For more information about NC Sports for Special Kids, visit their website at www.ncspecialkids.org.
Pound 4 Pound Challenge!
As I watched “The Biggest Loser” the other night I had an idea. It started out as an individual goal for myself but then I thought how we could actually make this a “community” project for ASM and it would benefit the WELLNESS programs if everyone got involved. I have created a team on the Biggest Loser Website called “Making Miracles Happen!” A few of us in the Greenville office have already joined the team and pledged to lose a certain amount of weight by May 31, 2011. Granted we only have a little over a month to do this but, for every pound we lose the show donates 11 cents to feed hunger across America. This is done annually while the show airs so we could even make it an annual thing and jump on board at the beginning next year. Anyhow, I would like to invite all of you to pass this information out to all of your employees, QP’s, families, friends, SR’s, and see if they would like to join our team “Making Miracles Happen!” to help this worthwhile cause and get in shape together! Janet has already approved this to be sent out to all SR’s, employees, and families so please spread the word! The more the merrier!
You can visit www.biggestloser.com, click on the pound for pound challenge on the right side of the screen and then click to search the teams. Type in Making Miracles Happen and join our team!
Feeding America provides low-income individuals and families with the fuel to survive and even thrive. As the nation's leading domestic hunger-relief charity, The Biggest Loser network members supply food to more than 37 million Americans each year, including 14 million children and 3 million seniors. Serving the entire United States, more than 200 member food banks support 61,000 agencies that address hunger in all of its forms.
Feeding America will use the funds donated by The Pound For Pound Challenge to deliver groceries to its network of local food banks.
For every pound you pledge to lose through May 31, 2011, the Pound For Pound Challenge will donate 11¢ to Feeding America® — enough to secure one pound of groceries on behalf of local food banks. $1,040,000 maximum donation.
Thanks!
